Industrial Networking: Routers, Gateways, and Ethernet Switches
Industrial networking links machines, controllers, and remote equipment to each other and to a wider network, and we supply the three devices that do it: cellular routers, IoT gateways, and industrial Ethernet switches. The right one depends on the uplink (4G LTE or 5G, with dual SIM and automatic failover where the connection cannot drop), the equipment it connects (Ethernet, or RS232 and RS485 serial devices using protocols such as Modbus), the number of ports and whether they supply Power over Ethernet, and the environment. Most models here are rated for -40 to +75°C. We supply the network hardware together with the computer, display, and power supply for the same system, so the build comes from one partner instead of several suppliers. To build the rest of the system, see our industrial and box PCs, DIN-rail power supplies, and industrial system integration.
How to choose
- Cellular router: connects a site, cabinet, or vehicle to a 4G LTE or 5G network, with Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet ports, dual SIM, and automatic WAN failover. Our 5G range includes an FCC-certified model for North America.
- IoT gateway: a compact LTE device that brings serial and I/O equipment (RS232, RS485, digital I/O) onto the network, with industrial protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, and DLMS.
- Ethernet switch: adds ports to a wired network. Unmanaged switches are plug-and-play; a managed switch adds PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, and MRP. PoE+ models deliver up to 30 W per port, and SFP ports add fiber for long runs.
- Vehicles and rail: M12 connectors, IP67 housings, and EN 50155 and EN 45545-2 railway certifications on selected routers and switches.
- Lifecycle: where the manufacturer is discontinuing a model, its product page gives the last order date and the successor we recommend.
