What Happens to Technology Without Optical Bonding?

January 11, 2018

In today’s society, technology plays a large role in every environment imaginable. From your smartphone to the interactive map at the mall, a digital screen appears around every corner. When you’re in the market for a custom touchscreen display from Fortec, the possibilities are truly endless — and your device will last quite a long time, too, thanks to optical bonding. Although we stress the importance of optical bonding, there are some people who would rather opt-out of optical bonding — but what are the downsides?

Sun Damage

When you opt-in for optical bonding, you can think of our VacuBond® Vacuum Bonding & Vacuum Assembly/Laminating technology as a large pair of sunglasses for your device. Since most touchscreen displays aren’t equipped with a protective layer to refract the rays of the sun, there is the potential that over time the display’s digital appearance will grow weaker over time — which will ultimately damage the visual aspect of your display. With optical bonding, it will preserve your unit and will ultimately save some money, since there will be less of a reason to replace it.

Physical Damage

Optical bonding not only preserves the digital display quality of your unit, but it also acts as a shield to protect against it. When you think of some of the most common smartphones on the market, there are highly protective cases that will shield the screen from scratches and will resist any sort of force that may break them. With the science of optical bonding, it will ultimately protect your screen from any minor damage — which will preserve your unit over time. When a device isn’t equipped with optical bonding, then there’s a strong chance that the unit can be damaged over time. Therefore, you’ll find yourself replacing your custom touchscreen display more often than you’d like to.

Debris Damage

Believe it or not, touchscreens can get damaged over time due to the buildup of dirt and debris. When your device is optically bonded, the VacuBond® Vacuum Bonding will act as a shield not only against the sun but also against harmful dust particles as well. This will increase the lifespan of your device and will leave less room for error when it comes to the function. Needless to say, if dust and debris enter your device, they will slow it down and ultimately damage it — but with optical bonding, that won’t even be an option.

As the global leader in optical bonding, Fortec US supports you in all project phases – from construction of the metal housing and procurement of specific parts to in-house development of controller boards and touchscreen integration.
