What Could Happen if a Touch Screen Isn’t Optically Bonded?
September 10, 2019
When you hear the term “optical bonding,” what comes to mind first? For most, it’s a term that signifies that their custom touch screen display is of the highest quality and will be protected from wear and tear over time. However, there are some screens in the field that choose to go without optical bonding, which could be a cause for concern — and here’s what could happen without this important “shield.”
Won’t Protect Against the Sun
Having a custom touch screen display optically bonded will act as a pair of sunglasses for your screen. This will help protect it from sun exposure, keeping the display quality of the screen intact for the years to come. However, if a touch screen is placed in direct sunlight and is without optical bonding, then there’s a chance that the display can start to obtain a yellowish tinge and stop delivering crystal-clear graphics.
Daily Interaction can Damage the Screen
Now, you might be saying to yourself: “Isn’t the sole purpose of a touch screen to be touched?” While that is very true, a screen that foregoes optical bonding will have less of a chance of holding up over time. Think about it: if a screen doesn’t have a “shield” and is continuously being interacted with on a daily basis, there’s a strong chance that the screen can get damaged — which is something that no screen owner ever wants to endure.
Glaring will Occur
Going back to the concept of acting like a pair of sunglasses, if your screen isn’t optically bonded, there’s a higher chance of glaring on the screen. This, of course, will make your screen a little less appealing to audiences — and on a bright, sunny day, much harder to read and interact with.
