What Sets Kyocera Industrial TFT Displays Apart?

November 25, 2015

Kyocera industrial TFT displays stand out for symmetrical wide viewing angles from Kyocera’s Advanced Wide Viewing (AWV) technology, combined with high brightness and wide operating temperature ranges, in panels with the LED backlight driver built in. They also have a long availability record: some Kyocera models have been available for more than 15 years. We supply them as panels or as complete display assemblies with controller, touchscreen, and cover glass.

Which Kyocera display is current?

The 5.8-inch TCG058WXLPBVNN-AN30 is a WXGA display with 800 cd/m² brightness, AWV technology for good readability from the sides, an operating range of -20 to +70°C, and an LED backlight driving board integrated in the panel.

Why does dimming down to 1% matter?

Because a display bright enough for daylight dazzles in a dim room. The TCG058WXLPBVNN-AN30 dims from 1% to 100%, so its brightness can be matched exactly to the ambient light: the operator is not dazzled in low light, and the information stays easy to read in bright light.

How bright and how rugged were earlier Kyocera models?

Earlier Kyocera models set the pattern of high brightness, AWV viewing angles of 170°/170°, and an operating range of -30 to +80°C:

  • 7-inch TCG070WVLQxPNN-ANx122: WVGA, 1000 cd/m², anti-glare surface, integrated LED converter, for outdoor, mobile, and industrial use.
  • 8.4-inch TCG084SVLQxPNN-ANx33: SVGA, 1200 cd/m², integrated LED converter.
  • A range of eight 10.4-inch and 12.1-inch displays, all with AWV and an integrated LED converter, from 400 cd/m² up to 1300 cd/m² at 10.4 inches and 1200 cd/m² at 12.1 inches. The high-brightness versions stay readable in direct sunlight.

The 7-inch and 8.4-inch part numbers above are now discontinued. If one is in a product you still build, give us the part number, and we will find a replacement through our obsolescence management.

How do you integrate a Kyocera display?

As a plug-and-play kit with one of our Prisma TFT controllers and all the necessary accessories, for VGA, DVI, HDMI, or video input; see how Prisma TFT controllers simplify display integration. For touch operation or protection, we bond a touchscreen, a protective glass, or both to the display with VacuBond® optical bonding in Ronkonkoma. Bonding raises resistance to vibration and shock and to the ingress of dirt and moisture while keeping the display’s optical quality.

Tell us where it has to work, and we will take it from there. We recommend the display, add the controller, touchscreen, and glass, bond the assembly, and stay with the project from first samples to series production.
