What Is a Fire-Safe 4K Digital Signage Totem?

A fire-safe digital signage totem is a free-standing display whose housing and display, together, carry a fire classification, so it can stand in areas where fire rules keep combustible equipment out, such as escape routes. The BLO-Line® 4K totem from FORTEC Integrated, our sister company in the FORTEC Group, combines a 54.6-inch 4K panel with the fire-protected construction of the BLO-Line wall monitors and is certified to fire protection class A1. How does a totem differ from a fire-rated wall monitor?

It brings the same protection to a space with no suitable wall. The totem is under 2 meters tall, with a very shallow installation depth and a flat stand, so it can stand in a lobby or corridor and put information directly in front of visitors in areas that are critical for fire protection. Like the rest of the series it is available with optional touch, can take an optional extinguishing cartridge, and uses only robust displays designed for 24/7 operation. The 4K panel gives a sharp image for close viewing.

How was the BLO-Line 4K totem tested?

As a complete, working product. The totem passed its fire test at MFPA Leipzig, a recognized testing, monitoring, and certification center for materials used in construction, in late 2024, and by early 2025 it was certified as a fully functional complete product to fire protection class A1. Because no classification system exists for electronic devices, the test follows EN 13501-1, the European classification of construction products by fire behavior, which also considers smoke development and burning droplets, using the single burning item (SBI) method of EN 13823.

The 4K versions of the wall monitors went through the same scrutiny. In April 2024 FORTEC Integrated had a new fire report drawn up, and it confirmed the values already achieved, including for the 4K monitors. The same year the series was named FeuerTrutz Product of the Year 2024 in structural fire protection.

What are VdS 6024 and class A1, and do they apply in the US?

They are European requirements, not US listings. Class A1 is the highest class of EN 13501-1, the class that also applies to brick, steel, and concrete. VdS 6024 is a German guideline from VdS, the loss prevention institution of the German insurance industry, and the BLO-Line series meets its requirements. For a US installation, whether those classifications are accepted is for the project’s fire protection engineer and the authority having jurisdiction to decide; the certificate and fire report give them the test evidence. Which BLO-Line versions can you specify today?

For the totem, ask us about current availability and configurations. The 54.6-inch BLO-Line 4K wall monitors shown on our site are discontinued. The current wall-mounted BLO-Line monitors come in 24, 31.5, and 46 inches, for example the BLO-Line 24 IQ with a built-in Intel® Atom PC and the BLO-Line 46 PME for an external video source.
