HDP1200 Power Supply: When 1,200 Watts Needs to Fit a Smaller, Cooler, and More Reliable System
November 6, 2026
By Mike Pizzirusso, Director of Business Development, FORTEC US
The HDP1200 FF Series, a 1,200 W GaN power supply rated for medical, audio/video, and IT equipment, is now available from FORTEC US. It is made by Inission Power and listed with our AC/DC power supplies, and the HDP1200 product page lists its full features.
After 42 years in the electronics industry, much of that time spent as a field applications engineer, one thing I have learned is that selecting a power supply is rarely just about finding the right voltage and wattage.
For engineers and program managers developing medical, industrial, imaging, communications, or professional A/V equipment, power density, thermal management, EMC, reliability, and regulatory compliance can ultimately be just as important as the number printed on the power supply’s label.
That is what makes the HDP1200 FF Series particularly interesting.
1,200 Watts in a Compact 1U-Compatible Package
The HDP1200 FF Series delivers 1,200 W of regulated DC power from a 180 to 305 VAC input, in a package measuring 4.2 x 8.1 x 1.6 in (107 x 206 x 41 mm). It accepts a universal 90 to 305 VAC input, and at low line, from 90 to 137 VAC, it is rated at 1,000 W. Standard outputs are 24 VDC and 48 VDC:
| Model | Output | At 180 to 305 VAC | At 90 to 137 VAC |
|---|---|---|---|
| HDP1200-US24-FF | 24 VDC | 1,200 W (50 A) | 1,000 W (41.7 A) |
| HDP1200-US48-FF | 48 VDC | 1,200 W (25 A) | 1,000 W (20.8 A) |
For system designers fighting for every inch of enclosure space, that combination of power and size can have a meaningful impact on the overall mechanical design.
GaN Technology Makes the Difference
One of the technologies that separates the HDP1200 from many conventional high-power AC/DC designs is its active GaN-based PFC architecture. The supply achieves 95.5% typical efficiency, reducing the amount of input energy that must ultimately be dissipated as heat.
Anyone who has spent time troubleshooting power and thermal problems knows that efficiency goes beyond the electric bill. Less wasted power means less heat inside the enclosure, which can simplify thermal management and contribute to overall system reliability.
Its fan is also digitally controlled, providing only the airflow required by operating conditions. The result is lower acoustic noise, and it helps extend the power supply’s service life.
Where the HDP1200 Has an Advantage
Rather than comparing specification-sheet numbers alone, I look at where a product can solve an engineering problem.
The HDP1200 combines 1,200 W output, 95.5% typical efficiency, GaN-based PFC, medical approvals, a compact 1U-compatible package, current sharing, remote sense, and system-control functions in one platform.
That integration is an important competitive advantage. Instead of treating power density, medical compliance, system control, and redundancy as separate design problems, engineers can address them with one power platform.
For higher-power or high-availability systems, the built-in current-share capability allows supplies to operate in parallel, and redundancy is possible. Contact us for details. Designers also have Remote On/Off, Power Good, and remote-sense signals, along with a 5 V/1.5 A standby output.
Especially Strong for Medical Designs
Medical equipment is an area where I think the HDP1200 becomes particularly compelling.
It carries IEC 60601-1 3rd edition medical safety approval with 2x MoPP. Its safety approvals also list ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 and CSA C22.2 No. 60601-1. It is compatible with BF-applied-part equipment and meets IEC 60601-1-2 4th edition EMC requirements. The same two models cover both medical and A/V and IT equipment, and the 2x MoPP rating holds at altitudes up to 4,000 meters.
The platform also carries IEC/UL 62368-1 safety approval for audio/video and IT equipment, and it is designed to comply with UL8750 for LED lighting. That allows the same basic architecture to address applications well beyond medical equipment.
Where I Would Consider the HDP1200
The strongest target applications include:
- CT and MRI imaging equipment
- Medical monitoring and therapeutic equipment
- Dental and surgical systems
- Laboratory and analytical instrumentation
- Industrial automation and process control
- Telecommunications equipment
- Video walls and professional displays
- Stage, dynamic LED, and solid-state lighting
HDP1200 FAQs
What is the HDP1200 operating temperature range?
-20 to 70 °C, with no derating up to 50 °C. Above 50 °C, output derates, and the supply can start at -40 °C after a warm-up delay.
Is the HDP1200 open frame or enclosed?
Enclosed, with its own front-mounted fan. The FF in the part number stands for Front Fan Box, and the unit weighs under 750 g (1.65 lb).
How much power do two HDP1200 units deliver in parallel?
Up to 2,200 W at 180 to 305 VAC, or 1,850 W at 90 to 137 VAC. Two units run in parallel with their I-Share and VS-Logic signals daisy-chained. The load at start-up is limited to 1,200 W, or 1,000 W at low line.
What protections does the HDP1200 have?
Over-temperature, over-voltage, over-current, short-circuit, and input under-voltage protection. Both AC lines also carry high breaking capacity fuses. For what to check beyond these, see what surge protection an industrial or medical power supply should have.
What warranty does the HDP1200 have?
Five years. Inission Power lists a five-year warranty for the HDP1200 FF Series.
The Bottom Line
In my experience, the best power solution isn’t necessarily the one with the longest specification sheet. It is the one that solves the most system-level problems without creating new ones.
For engineers trying to reduce size and heat while maintaining reliability, and for program managers looking to reduce design risk in long-life programs, the HDP1200 deserves a serious look early in the design cycle.
Considering the HDP1200 for a new design? Send us the output voltage and power the system needs, the AC input it will see, and the space and airflow inside the enclosure. We will check the HDP1200 against those requirements with you and supply it. If the system also needs a display or an embedded computer, we supply those too, as one integrated system. Display, embedded, and power expertise sit under one roof at FORTEC, so one engineering team is accountable for the whole assembly.
