Which Computers Are Certified for Railway Use (EN 50155)?

July 16, 2026

Two products in our catalog are built for railway certification, at two levels of integration. The MPT-3110R is a complete box PC certified to EN 50155:2021 and EN 45545-2, ready to install in a rail vehicle. The conga-TC675r is a rugged COM Express module that meets IEC 61373 Category 2, for engineers building their own railway computer on a custom carrier board. We source both through the FORTEC Group and supply, integrate, and support them from Ronkonkoma, New York.

What does an EN 50155 railway box PC offer?

Reliability, high availability, and straightforward integration into an existing vehicle architecture. The MPT-3110R runs an Intel Atom x7000RE series processor, with enough performance for passenger information, video surveillance, data aggregation, and condition monitoring at moderate power consumption, which matters in a mobile installation. EN 45545-2 is the fire protection standard for rail vehicles, so the unit suits safety-critical railway applications.

  • A rugged enclosure with vibration-resistant M12 connectors for networking, USB, and power.
  • Integrated ignition control, so the computer starts up and shuts down with the vehicle’s operating logic.
  • Dual Gigabit Ethernet, isolated CAN 2.0A, CAN 2.0B, and CAN FD, and flexible GPIOs.
  • Two SIM card slots for WWAN redundancy: if one mobile network fails, the system switches to the other automatically, keeping data transmission continuous.
  • A removable 2.5-inch drive bay for fast storage replacement and less downtime.
  • USB Type-C with Alternate Mode and up to 60 W Power Delivery, and a -40 to +70°C operating range.

What if the design needs its own railway computer?

Then the processor can come on a certified module. The conga-TC675r is a COM Express Compact module with 13th Gen Intel Core processors of the Raptor Lake P, H or U series, which combine performance cores with efficient cores to match different workloads. It has passed IEC 60068 testing for extreme temperature, humidity, shock, and vibration, meets IEC 61373 Category 2 for the railway industry, and operates from -40°C. That makes it a fit for rail vehicles, railway infrastructure, and other mobile or stationary systems exposed to heavy environmental stress.

Soldered LPDDR5x memory with ECC, PCI Express Gen4, and USB4 keep it reliable and well connected, and Intel Iris Xe graphics handle computing-intensive visualization or AI workloads. It belongs to congatec’s aReady.COM line, so it can be delivered pre-configured and tested, which shortens the path to series production and reduces integration risk. Our post on congatec computer-on-modules covers the wider module range.

How does the rest of the train stay connected?

Through a router certified to the same standards. The Teltonika ATRM50 5G router also carries EN 50155 and EN 45545-2 certification, with M12 connectors and dual-SIM failover; our post on industrial and railway 5G routers covers it.

Tell us where the system has to run and what it has to connect, and we will take it from there. We recommend the computer or module, integrate it with the display and power supply, and stay with the project from first samples to series production, backed by our technical services.
