Are LG Display’s Slim 11.6 and 12.5 Inch and 42 Inch TFTs Still Available?
November 25, 2014
No. The three LG Display panels below, two very slim notebook-style displays and one 42-inch large-format display, are discontinued and no longer in our range. If one of them is designed into a product you still build, we can help you find and qualify a replacement. Here is what each offered, which is what a replacement has to match.
What did the slim 11.6 and 12.5 inch LG displays offer?
Very little depth with the LED backlight converter built in. The 11.6-inch LP116WH6-SLA1 had HD resolution (1366 × 768), a maximum depth of only 3.1 mm and a power consumption of 3.86 W, with IPS technology for a symmetrical viewing angle of at least 160°/160° and 300 cd/m² brightness. It suited applications where a compact design and low power consumption were essential.
The 12.5-inch LP125WF2-SPB1 was thinner still, at a maximum depth of 2.85 mm, with full HD resolution (1920 × 1080), a viewing angle of at least 160°/160° and an embedded DisplayPort (eDP) interface. To run it from an LVDS source, we paired it with our LVDS2eDP adapter board and a Prisma or Artista TFT controller as a plug-and-play kit. The LVDS2eDP is still current and connects dual-lane eDP displays up to WUXGA (1920 × 1200) to a dual-LVDS interface. Our post on how to drive an eDP display from an LVDS controller or SBC covers the options.
What did the 42-inch LD420EUN-UHA1 offer?
Full HD (1920 × 1080) at 700 cd/m², a wide 178°/178° viewing angle, and use in landscape or portrait orientation. Its 8 ms response time gave smooth screen changes, which made it a fit for information and multimedia applications. We supplied it as a plug-and-play kit with our TFT controllers and all the necessary cables. For current large-format options, see our posts on how bright a sunlight-readable display needs to be and on LG and other 4K and UHD panels.
How do you replace a discontinued LG panel?
Start from what the product was designed around: for the slim panels, the depth, power draw and interface; for the 42-inch, the brightness, orientation and viewing angle. We shortlist candidates against the original’s outline, mounting, interface, brightness and temperature range, and tell you plainly where any gap would be. Where a candidate differs, we close the gap with an interface board such as the LVDS2eDP, or a mechanical or electrical customization, so the new display fits the existing design.
Send us the LG part number and tell us about the product it goes into, and we will take it from there, drawing on the FORTEC Group where a project needs it. When a part receives an EOL notice, we tell you early and plan with you: a last-time buy to cover remaining builds, or qualifying a replacement before supply runs out. Our obsolescence management service covers the process, and our EOL products page lists other discontinued parts.
